Public data. Clear rights.

New public dataset materials use CC BY-NC 4.0. Earlier source releases retain their original licences; custom orders follow the accepted commercial agreement.

01 · Public rights

Share, adapt and give credit.

Public dataset policy · Version 2026-10-13 · 13 October 2026

Striped Donkey public dataset materials newly published under this policy, including previews, samples and accompanying documentation, are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Qualifying non-commercial use

You may copy, share and adapt these materials for non-commercial purposes. Research, education, evaluation, benchmarking and AI or machine-learning experiments are permitted when the use qualifies as non-commercial.

Non-commercial means the use is not primarily intended for commercial advantage or monetary compensation. An organization’s type does not determine this by itself.

Credit, licence and changes

When sharing the material, give appropriate credit, link to the licence, indicate any changes and retain the notices supplied with it. Do not imply endorsement by Striped Donkey or Fidelra Africa.

Earlier CC BY 4.0 grants remain valid.

Some original reference releases, including the ML-01 and health packages, were already supplied under CC BY 4.0. Those grants remain valid for those releases. This policy does not revoke them or add a NonCommercial restriction to copies supplied under them. Check the licence notice for the exact artifact you use.

Attribution and notices

When sharing the material, give appropriate credit, link to the licence, indicate any changes and retain the notices supplied with it. Do not imply endorsement by Striped Donkey or Fidelra Africa.

Use any reasonable attribution format. Include the dataset title, publisher, source URL and licence; a release identifier and synthetic-data context help readers identify the material.

Citation guidance

Keep the licence permissions and other notices

Third-party materials retain their own notices and licences. This policy does not relicense GeoNames location data, third-party reports, fonts, software, logos or trademarks.

The CC licence permits non-commercial redistribution and adaptation. Do not add legal terms or technical measures that restrict the permissions it grants. Applicable exceptions and limitations remain available. The licence cannot be revoked while its conditions are met.

Commercial use and orders

Custom orders and unpublished commercial extracts follow the Data Licensing Agreement and accepted order. Public-material rights do not grant access to a paid release. Commercial use of material licensed only under CC BY-NC 4.0 requires separate permission from Fidelra Africa.

02 · Commercial orders

Agree the scope, price and rights.

Commercial Dataset Terms version 2026-10 apply to new orders when incorporated into the accepted order. Scope, city, domains, period, formats, permitted uses, price and redistribution rights follow that order, quotation or dataset-specific licence.

Quote confirmation before payment.

Catalogue prices are base prices. Datasets are prepared after an order; final scope and quotation are agreed.

Website requests, downloads and checkboxes do not complete a purchase or activate a paid licence. Free-sample rights do not grant access to a full release.

Standard licence

Non-exclusive, non-transferable internal use for the named customer, within agreed scope and duration, after payment conditions are met.

Internal work and outputs

Internal research, development, testing and analytics within agreed scope. Outputs must identify their synthetic basis and avoid reconstructable records or extraction.

Uses to agree expressly

Specify model training, external applications, multi-entity access and customer-facing distribution. Raw or reconstructable data redistribution requires separate written authorization.

Named release and duration

The order defines the licence duration. Refreshes, APIs, services and source-generation software require express inclusion.

Full commercial rights and restrictions

Standard licence

After payment conditions are met, the standard licence is non-exclusive and non-transferable for the named customer’s internal use within the agreed scope and duration. Authorized employees and contractors must follow equivalent restrictions.

Internal work and outputs

Within the agreed scope, store, query, analyze and integrate data for internal research, development, testing and analytics. Share reports and aggregate findings only with their synthetic basis identified, without exposing reconstructable records or enabling extraction.

Uses to specify expressly

Specify model training, external applications, multi-entity access and customer-facing distribution in the order. Reselling, sublicensing, publishing or redistributing raw or substantially reconstructable data requires separate written authorization.

Duration and future releases

The order defines a perpetual or time-limited licence for the named release. Refreshes, APIs, custom services and source-generation software are included only when expressly stated.

03 · Release context

Keep the applicable version.

The accepted order and incorporated document versions govern. Later website revisions do not automatically amend an existing order.

Source notices, limitations and delivery context

Keep the source licence and applicable third-party notices. Record the release and synthetic basis so readers can interpret the data. This context guidance adds no restriction to the public CC licence.

For paid orders, disclosed residuals and limitations are part of the specification. The accepted documents govern delivery, verification, remedies, security, confidentiality, termination and disputes. Optional services do not expand those rights.

04 · Documents

Read the applicable terms.

Acceptable Use Policy

Conduct for the website and commercial services. The public CC licence retains its stated permissions.
